Introducing, Leadership in Action!
Program Overview
Leadership in Action is a groundbreaking new initiative that addresses the challenges our chapters are facing today. The solution to the problems our undergraduates struggle with is training. Brothers at colleges and universities receive a diverse, liberal arts education, but they may not be getting the training they need to become effective leaders. This is where Leadership in Action comes in.
This new program, approved by the National Council, supported by the Foundation, and implemented by the National Staff, is a curriculum of over seventy potential courses teaching relevant core skills to Brothers. These courses include financial management, communication skills, motivating Brothers to be their best, and many other essential topics. Brothers who take these courses will be able to go back to their chapters and lead well and efficiently. Later on, they will graduate and go out into the world better prepared to succeed in the workplace and become leaders in their communities.
Leadership in Action is uniquely designed to accommodate a variety of learning styles. Lecture is combined with group exercises, individual work, and interactive sessions to provide a dynamic learning environment and an enjoyable experience for all. As the program grows, it will create opportunities for Brothers to get involved, seeking out teachers among those who have gone through the program.
Each module is broken up into three or four parts which can be given at a major event (National Convention or a regional conference), at a local chapter meeting, or online. The first two modules to be released will be "The Great Balancing Act" and "Conflict Management", and they will be unveiled at the 2010 National Convention in Harrisburg. Click here for a list of all possible modules.
Underwriting Opportunities for Donors
The Foundation has a very important role for alumni and others looking to support Leadership in Action: that of donor. This program will not launch without financial support from our Brothers.
Each module costs $3,500 to implement. This $3,500 pays for a module's implementation on the national, regional, local, and web level, as many times as the course is taught. We would love for individual Brothers to sponsor a module, but we also encourage you to get together with fellow Brothers from your collegiate chapter or alumni chapter, or with your family and friends to raise enough money to pay for a module. Donations of any amount are graciously welcomed.
If you would like to sponsor a module or would like more information about Leadership in Action, please contact our National Staff at 800-366-1916 or alumnirelations@phisigmapi.org. You can also donate online (be sure to choose "Leadership in Action Underwriting" from the drop-down menu).
