How does LiA certification benefit me?
This is probably the #1 question on your mind. LiA certification will empower you with the leadership skills to inspire a positive change in all facets of our Fraternity and our communities. It doesn’t hurt that you can list any LiA modules you've completed on your resume to show potential employers that you are trained in specific areas, which are desirable to many organizations. And last, but not least, through LiA you can also become certified to teach other Brothers the amazing leadership skills you've gained through LiA.
What is a module exactly?
A module is a flexible course structure which allows for a variety of teaching methods and accommodates a variety of learning styles. Rather than a traditional lecture-style class, modules incorporate discussion, activities, cohort groups, and other interactive learning experiences.
Modules are interactive and will be presented at various levels (nationally, regionally, and locally). Check out our module listing to see what LiA has in store.
How long is each module?
We know our Brothers are busy, so many of our modules are 60 minutes or less. In the grand scheme of things, you can be sure that you will never spend more than 90 minutes participating in any given module. (The short of it is each module varies in length, depending on the module you select.)
What is the cost of LiA?
You'll be happy to know that the cost of LiA is FREE to you. (Yes, you read that right…FREE.) The LiA program is being supported primarily by The Phi Sigma Pi Foundation. Additional costs are covered by registration fees you pay to events where a LiA module will be presented and through your membership dues.
Where do I begin my involvement with LiA?
You can begin your involvement with LiA at this year's National Convention. During the 2011 National Convention, we're hooking you up with 20 points to jump start your certification.
Can't make it to National Convention? Don't worry — there are plenty of other ways to earn your certification points through things you're already doing. For example, if you hold a leadership position, you'll earn 1 point. Or, if you plan to attend a Regional Conference where a LiA module will be presented, you'll earn 8 points.
What do I need to do to get certified?
Getting certified is easy — all you have to do is acquire 75 points, which can come from a variety of areas, each with different point values. (And, if you attend National Convention this year, you will earn 20 points to jump start your certification.) Check out our certification structure.
Who will facilitate the modules?
Initially, modules will be facilitated by National Staff members. However, Brothers can get trained as LiA facilitators, too. Facilitator training will be available at National Convention and at select Regional events. (And, Brothers will receive 2 points toward LiA certification for facilitating a local LiA module, so it's worth it to get trained.)
How can I be trained as a trainer to facilitate a LiA module?
We're excited to welcome Brothers as LiA facilitators. To get trained, Brothers need to attend a Facilitator Training Workshop, which will be available at National Convention and at select Regional events. Our Facilitator Training Workshops will give Brothers the skills they need to effectively conduct the highly interactive LiA modules.
How can alumni get involved with LiA?
We don't want our alumni to get left behind in all the LiA fun. Alumni can grow their leadership skills by participating in LiA modules to get certified. Also, alumni are invited to become LiA Facilitators. The most important role for alumni is that of Champion of the LiA program.
