Is Phi Sigma Pi a social Greek organization?
No. While we do have a Greek-letter name, Phi Sigma Pi is not a traditional social fraternity or sorority. We are an academic and service-based Honor Fraternity, with a focus on personal and professional development through meaningful experiences in and out of the classroom.
Is Phi Sigma Pi legitimate?
Yes. Phi Sigma Pi was founded in 1916 and has maintained a strong presence on college campuses nationwide. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with active collegiate and Alumni Chapters across the country. We are proud of our long-standing commitment to leadership and service.
As a Fraternity, is Phi Sigma Pi just for men?
No! While Phi Sigma Pi is referred to as a Fraternity, we are a gender-inclusive organization open to all individuals, regardless of gender identity. The term “Fraternity” reflects our historical roots, but our community proudly includes people of all genders who are committed to our ideals of Scholarship, Leadership, and Fellowship.
Will joining affect my academic performance?
Likely in a positive way! Members are among the most academically driven students on campus. Phi Sigma Pi encourages peer academic support and emphasizes balance through our member education programs.
Is there a pledging or initiation process?
Yes. New members go through an Initiation Program designed to help both the student and existing Members understand the organization’s values and expectations, ensuring a strong and informed fit. This process also facilitates each new Member getting to know more Chapter Members to feel welcomed into the organization.
What is the time commitment?
It depends on the Chapter. The first term is often the busiest due to initiation activities. After that, Members typically attend weekly meetings and some mandatory events. Those seeking leadership roles may spend more time.
Is there an alcohol policy?
Yes. Alcohol is discouraged at Phi Sigma Pi events and is expressly prohibited during any membership drives or initiation events. A Phi Sigma Pi sponsored event is interpreted as one that is organized by a Chapter. Chapters cannot use official funds to purchase alcohol, and all applicable laws must be followed.
What about hazing?
Phi Sigma Pi has a strict no-hazing policy. All forms of hazing—physical or mental—are strictly prohibited at all levels of the organization. The Grand Chapter strictly prohibits the hazing of individuals involved in any Fraternity activities, including Initiation. Read more of our Key Policies here.
