Leadership Beyond the Title

While Executive Board Members help guide the Chapter, every Member has the chance to make an impact and contribute in ways that fit their strengths. Strong Chapters thrive when Members step up, take ownership, and support one another. Here are five ways to lead within your Chapter, regardless of your title.
Be the Member who shows up.
Showing up is one of the clearest ways to lead. Attend meetings even when your schedule is packed, volunteer at events, or stick around to help set up or clean up. Being present shows commitment and encourages other Members to get involved.
Create a welcoming Chapter culture.
Your Chapter’s culture is created by everyone, not just elected Officers. Introduce yourself to new Initiates, reach out to those who haven’t been around lately, or invite someone to join your committee. Small gestures like these help build a stronger Chapter environment where everyone feels supported and valued.
Take initiative.
You don’t need to wait for someone to ask you to help. Offering to set up an event, stepping in when plans change, or volunteering for a task no one else has claimed shows dedication and responsibility.

Mentor new Members.
Help New Members feel at home by guiding someone who has been there. Share your experience by explaining Chapter traditions or giving a preview of what meetings or events are like. By offering support, new Members feel more connected and ready to contribute.
Represent Phi Sigma Pi with pride.
Leadership doesn’t stop at the Chapter level. Whether you’re wearing letters on campus, collaborating with other organizations, or engaging with Potential New Members, you represent Phi Sigma Pi. Acting with professionalism and living out the Tripod sets a positive example for everyone.
Leadership in Phi Sigma Pi is not defined by a title. It is defined by the choices you make and the example you set. When Members lead through action, the Chapter becomes stronger, more connected, and ready to succeed.
